ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A person is dead after a car hit a concrete wall on Lindell Boulevard, causing debris to fall onto a car passing underneath on Forest Park Parkway.

It happened at Union and Lindell about 1:30 p.m. St. Louis police tweet that there was one fatality, and one injury in the accident.

A older model white sedan hit the concrete barrier at a high rate of speed, police say, sending a concrete chunk weighing approximately 1 ton raining down on Forest Park Parkway below, crushing the top of a passing Tesla, instantly killing the female driver.

The 22-year-old woman who triggered the accident is hospitalized. Police say her statement is that she hit the curb after turning on Lindell and lost control of her car.

Forest Park Parkway between Union and Kingshighway is closed to all vehicle and foot traffic, police tweeted. Accident reconstruction is responding.

Police ask that the public avoid the area if possible.
