CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (KMOX/AP) - A scratch-off ticket and the Powerball made for some very nice Christmas presents for a couple of St. Louis-area men in December 2018.

The Missouri Lottery said Monday that Ronald Zarbo of Chesterfield matched all five white-ball numbers in the Christmas Day Mega Millions drawing – to win $1 million. The only number he missed was the final Mega Ball number.

Zarbo says he normally plays his own numbers but for the Dec. 25 drawing he bought a Quick Pick ticket at a Petro Mart in Chesterfield. Confused by the message on the Check-A-ticket machine, he asked a clerk what it meant.

``They said, `You won a million dollars!''' Zarbo said.

The winning numbers for the Dec. 25 drawing were 2, 8, 42, 43 and 50, and the Mega Ball number was 6.

Then in St. Charles, Paul Demper isn't regretting his $50,950 mistake.

Demper thought the Powerball ticket he bought November 10th won him $50, which he thought was unusual, he put the ticket away for a few weeks.

He went to get all his tickets checked just after Christmas, and Demper realized he'd misread a comma as a period – his $50 prize was actually $50,000.

Demper says he and his wife will do some traveling around the country with their prize money.
