$1 Million Grant Gives St. Louis Store Fronts an Upgrade

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Local businesses can apply for their share of a $1 million block grant to give their stores a face-lift.

Leonard Johnson, who heads up neighborhood business development for the St. Louis Development Corporation, says what's different this year is they've switched from a first-come first-serve basis to accepting ‘requests for proposals’ to bring about more cohesion in renovation projects.

“When you look at a business and there’s store front renovation happening, there’s variety. It becomes a little more inviting, like somethings happening here,” he says.

The Neighborhood Commercial District Program is also known as the Facade Project, and it’s been making grants to local small businesses for the past two decades.

There's a public meeting about the Facade Project at 2 this afternoon at the Harrison Center on Cass Avenue.
