Nine tornadoes were reported from Texas to Iowa on Wednesday, and 40 million are being warned to keep an eye on the sky today as more dangerous weather moves across the central U.S. and into the northeast.

More rounds of showers and thunderstorms are forecast for today and into this evening, according to KMOX AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore. Some storms could be severe, producing hail, damaging wind gusts and flash flooding caused by repeated downpours.

Across the central U.S. Wednesday, heavy rain, lightning and strong winds tore through homes and knocked down power lines.

Kansas saw its first tornadoes of the year. Sirens wailed in Oklahoma, as well.

At least nine twisters were reported in Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri -- just one day after more than 18 tornadoes ripped through the Midwest.
