Alex Reyes Expected To Return To Cardinals Rotation In Milwaukee

Tuesday, May 29 could be the first time since 2016 that we see the Cards No. 1 prospect on a MLB mound.

In Alex Reyes' final rehab start, this time with the Memphis Redbirds, he struck out 13 batters, walked one and allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings.

"I feel ready, I feel 100 percent," Reyes said. "Everything is coming out of my hand good, I'm throwing my breaking ball for strikes. I'm just ready to go out there and compete."

At one point in Thursday's game, Reyes struck out the entire lineup, consecutively – that's nine K's in a row. He says he didn't even realize he did it until they put the highlights on the video board.

"I don't remember I've ever done that (at any level of baseball)," Reyes says. "That just shows how focused I am out there on the mound."

Reyes has now thrown 23 shutout innings, striking out 44 hitters in four rehab starts, across four different levels. What's maybe even more impressive, is that he's only walked seven in that time. For his most recent appearance Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak was in the stands to watch.

"He's basically pounding the door down saying he's ready," Mozeliak told's Joe Trezza. "When you watch how he is in complete command of what he's doing, it certainly allows you to have a lot more confidence in the decision you're about to make.

When he was asked about if next week in Milwaukee would be Reyes' first apperance back in the big leagues, Mo said "I wouldn't bet against it."
