Anti-Defamation League Concerned by Anti-Semitic Tweets

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The local head of the Anti-Defamation League says she's concerned by a big increase in anti-Semitic messages posted on social media sites like Twitter.

There were 4.2 million anti-Semitic tweets last year on Twitter, according to a new ADL report. And ADL regional director Karen Aroesty says it wasn't just anti-Semitic tweets that concerned her, but also anti-Muslim, anti-gay, and anti-women ones, too.

“We have to figure out how to educate and find allies to work together to build community on behalf of everybody almost at the same time," she says. "I think that’s one of the challenges. What are the things that are going on in our community that provide those optimistic points of contact where we can all come together for our common good?"

The ADL report estimated an average of 81.4 thousand anti-Semitic tweets were shared per week last year on Twitter.
