ST. LOUIS / ST. CHARLES (KMOX) -- Public and parochial schools across St. Louis City and County will be closed starting Wednesday March 18th through at least Friday April 3rd.

"The decision to close our school districts was extremely difficult, made in consultation with all area Superintendents and out of an abundance of caution for our families," the collective group said in a news release. "We know that closing our schools will have a significant impact on our families, but we also believe that strong, urgent action must be taken to prevent the spread of this disease and to protect lives."

St. Charles County also says all schools will be closed through April 3rd. Classes are set to resume April 6th. An email from Fort Zumwalt to parents and students explains this includes practices, contests, performances and any use of district facilities.

Jefferson County schools will close beginning 5 p.m. Tuesday March 17th and could reopen April 6.
