April 10 Celebrates Women's Rights to Equal Pay in Missouri

April 09, 2018 - 8:05 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - April 10th is Equal Pay Day in Missouri, the day when women catch up to what men have made. Lisa Picker, executive director of the Women's Foundation of St. Louis, says typically, women in Missouri make 80 cents of every dollar white men make. For black women, it's 67 cents. For Hispanic women it's 61cents.  The foundation is out with its Women in the Workplace Employment Scorecard.

“The idea was that we wanted to highlight organizations that already have exemplary policies and practices in place for women in the workplace, but also provide a tool to inform and  guide other organizations  going forward,” she says.

Employers scoring high, says Picker, understand that a diverse workplace and the more women working, the better outcomes for everyone. Companies singled out for having positive policies in place: Anders, Brown Smith Wallace, Bryan Cave, the St. Louis Zoo, Doorways and the Missouri Foundation for Health.
