ST. LOUIS (KMOX/AP) - St. Louis police say a man shot to death by an officer just before midnight, pointed two guns at police outside an apartment building at Walsh Street and Minnesota Avenue, late Monday night. Authorities say the man had just shot his friend inside the building.

St. Louis Police Chief John Hayden said during a news conference that the shooting happened after officers responded to a disturbance at an apartment. After hearing a muffled gunshot from a nearby apartment, officers approached. Hayden says an armed 18-year-old man then came running out of the apartment. Police say he ignored commands to stop and was shot when he turned toward police. His name wasn't immediately released. Two pistols were recovered there.

Another man was found inside the apartment suffering from a leg wound.

Investigators say the teen had just shot a 52-year-old friend after the two were drinking together. The friend tells them the teen suddenly pulled his gun and demanded he hand over his weapon.

The suspect's name is not being released yet. The officer who fired the shot is 40-years-old with 13 years on the force.
