BRENTWOOD, Mo. (KMOX) - Brentwood is considering banning bees.

At a 4:30 p.m. Brentwood Board of Aldermen meeting, beekeeping is on the agenda.

Lisa Koerkenmeier, the director of planning and development, says right now, there's no municipal code about bees, but there are reports of some residents having hives.

"Since the City is predominantly a residential community with homes on urban lots and in relatively close proximity to one another, staff believes beekeeping should be prohibited," the memorandum reads. "Bee allergies are very serious and can be deadly."

She has proposed a ban. In the proposed ordinance, bees are defined under "wild animals" - along with panthers and monkeys - and not allowed as pets or for any other reason.
