Big Muddy Adventures Offers Unique View of the Mississippi

June 04, 2018 - 7:45 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Starting today you can see the Mississippi River from a unique vantage point...from your seat inside a 30-foot-long canoe.

Roo Yawits, general manager of Big Muddy Adventures, says if you've only seen the Mississippi from beneath the Arch you're in for a big surprise.

“It’s amazing that you can e eight miles from the Arch and be in a completely wild and scenic looking piece of the Mississippi where not only in there no barge traffic, but there’s also almost no man-made elements at all,” he says.

The tour takes about 4 hours start-to-finish and costs $45 per person, and you don't even have to paddle, the guides do that.

“We’ve been taking people out on the big rivers, the Missouri and the Mississippi, for 12 years. This is the first time that we’ve offered a regularly scheduled public canoe trip into the arch, which we’re going to be doing every Monday and Wednesday all summer,” he says.
