"Often times he comes out of it and puts together a great stretch where he looks like a Cy Young candidate again."

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The last time we saw Carlos Martinez (3-4), he struggled in his fourth start since returning from the disabled list (right lat strain), June 21 in Milwaukee. He allowed seven runs — five earned — on eight hits in four innings with two walks, three strikeouts and two wild pitches. The right-hander is 0-2 with an 8.10 ERA since being activated on June 4.

Tuesday night he and the St. Louis Cardinals will face the Cleveland Indians ace, and reigning AL Cy Young award winner, Corey Kluber.

Cardinals general manager Mike Girsch says "as far as we know he's healthy."

"We've seen this with Carlos from time to time, where he goes through a stretch where he loses the strikezone or loses his command," Girsch says. "Often times he comes out of it and puts together a great stretch where he looks like a Cy Young candidate again."

Girsch says he's looking forward to the game because facing another team's ace could be the perfect stage for Martinez to find his rhythm on the mound again.

First pitch is at 7:15 p.m. and you can hear it on KMOX 1120 AM.
