ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital is giving Bob Costas its highest honor this weekend.

He's in town to receive the Glennon Award for his contributions to the hospital over the years.

Costas serves on the Board of Governors and, for years, he hosted his annual awards shows to benefit the hospital. Those shows raised over $17 million for children's care, according to the hospital.

Costas told Charlie Brennan Thursday morning that he always appreciates Cardinal Glennon's approach with children who might be afraid of typical hospitals.

"They try to make it feel as little of a hospital (as possible)," Costas said. "It's a very foreboding place, for both child and parent, considering the circumstances they face. But when you walk into Cardinal Glennon, there's a human feeling about it. It's not cold...it's not entirely clinical. And from an emotional standpoint, as well as a technical and medical standpoint, they're getting the best possible circumstances."

Costas will be honored at the 3rd annual Glennon Glow banquet Saturday night at 6:30 at The Ritz-Carlton. For more information on the banquet, click here.
