Budget Work Continues in Jefferson County

June 11, 2018 - 8:55 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Budget work continues in Jefferson County this week after a tumultuous couple of days last week.

The county auditor, Richard Carter, resigned because he felt put into a corner. The county has bills to pay, but he couldn't pay them because the county charter says he'd probably lose his job if he did. A balanced budget is required for bill payment.

County Executive Ken Waller tells KMOX an emergency meeting on Friday corrected the budget snafu and allowed a new auditor to be appointed, so bills can be paid. But Waller says he wants to work with the council on making a better budget this week.
