Cab Driver Recovers After Stabbing

August 10, 2018 - 10:03 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - An Alton cab driver is recovering and his passenger is charged with attempted murder after a brutal knife attack.

Alton police aren't releasing the motive, but they say the man in the back seat took a knife and stabbed the cab driver more than a dozen times in the neck, shoulders and back.

“We aren’t really saying the victim’s name in this instance. He was an employee of Alton’s Best Cabs, he is expected to survive his injuries and he has been treated in St. Louis,” says St. Louis Police spokeswoman Emily Hejna.

The suspect, 54-year-old Arthur Smallwood was charged with attempted murder before he was arrested, and an Alton officer driving down the street spotted him walking down a street, pulled over and made the arrest. Smallwood is held on a $1million bond.
