St. Louis, MO (KMOX) - Red Cross officials say the annual St. Louis Cardinals blood drive this week comes at a critical time of year.

"We like to have 120,000 units on hand nationwide," says Joe Joe Zydlo External Communications Manager for the American Red Cross Blood Services for Missouri, Illinois and Arkansas.  "Right now I think we're probably in the low 80's which is not necessarily a good thing, which is typical of this time of year."Zydlo tells KMOX many donors are busy or travelling over the summer months.

The 15th Annual Cardinals blood drive starts Tuesday at multiple locations in the region.   Everyone who shows up to donate will get a special Cardinals T-shirt, while supplies last.
