Cardinals Gear Leaving The Cold Behind, Headed For Spring Training

The Cardinals pitchers and catchers are a week away from team workouts

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Throughout the next few days, the St. Louis Cardinals gear and players' personal items will travel 1,300 miles, and arrive in Jupiter, Fla. where it's about 30-degrees warmer. It's moving day at Busch Stadium as the Cardinals official start to spring training is less than a week away.

We got a look at the process of loading two tractor trailers with training equipment, gloves, bats, clothes, bicycles, golf clubs and golf carts, Wednesday. It's something that St. Louis-based, United Van Lines has been perfecting for the last 32 years. President David Sabada told us the two drivers that will be taking the gear are seasoned veterans.

Bobby and Larry are their names, and they've been caravanning on this Jupiter trip for the last 20 years together. Bobby, the operations manager at United has been doing it for 32 years, Sabada says.

Cardinals pitchers and catchers will report to Jupiter next Tuesday, Feb. 13, with the first full-squad, on-field workout set for Monday, Feb. 19.

Then on that following Friday, spring training games begin. The Cardinals play the Miami Marlins at the shared Roger Dean Stadium at 12:05 p.m.
