Cardiologists Reexamine Popular Foods and Heart Health

July 24, 2018 - 6:50 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Cardiologists are taking a fresh look at the most popular foods and their implications - both good and bad - on heart health.

Legumes, mushrooms, coffee, tea and even alcohol have heart health benefits according to new research published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.  But lead researcher Dr. Andrew Freeman says the jury is still out on dairy products.

Probably the most controversial of all was dairy. Half of us believed the dairy information suggested there was some danger, and half thought there was probably no danger. We left it as there’s not enough clear cut evidence to make a conclusion,” he says.

Vitamin B-12 showed signs of being beneficial for your heart but be careful how much you take.  Energy drinks and added sugars are not recommended.
