Two people had to be rescued from their burning home in Florissant this morning.

It happened at a home on Splendor Drive near Hazlewood Northwest Middle School. KMOX's Harry Hamm tells us the fire appears to have started in the garage.

Firefighters told him a caregiver and a patient living in the home barricaded themselves in a bedroom. One had to escape out of a rear window while the other needed to be rescued. Both are being treated for smoke inhalation.

It's unclear how the fire started. Firefighters from Florissant Valley, Hazelwood, and Black Jack initially responded. Firefighters are expected to be at the scene the rest of the morning to treat hotspots and investigate the cause.
