GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOX) - A woman and her young son are shaken but otherwise unhurt after they were carjacked Monday evening outside the Walmart on West Pontoon Road in Granite City.

A police report wasn't specific about the time it happened, but said a woman was approached on the parking lot of a local business by two men.

They ordered her to hand over the keys to her 2017 Ford F-150 pickup with license plates 2UW-567, and took off, with one man driving the stolen truck and the other in a black Ford hatchback SUV.

According to a fundraising post for the family, the suspects did allow the woman to take her son out of his carseat before speeding off.

Granite City Police are asking that anyone with information contact them at (618) 877-6111.

Meanwhile, friends of the family say the victim's husband is recovering after undergoing surgery just three weeks ago. They have set up a fundraising effort at YouCaring.com.
