update 7:15pm 5/26/18: Edwardsville Police posted on their Facebook page late Saturday afternoon that a 34-year-old male suspect has been taken into custody as a result of the property damage investigation between both Edwardsville and Glen Carbon police. More details will be released after charges are filed. The Edwardsville Police posting included this message, "We would like to thank those who shared our post and called with information. The fact the citizens of Glen Carbon and Edwardsville refuse to compromise with crime is greatly appreciated by both police departments."

GLEN CARBON, Ill. (KMOX) - Police in Glen Carbon and Edwardsville are looking for the person or persons who spray-painted swastikas on monuments in a cemetery and on a dozen homes and vehicles late Friday or early Saturday.

It happened in Sunset Hills Memorial Estates and the neighboring subdivision off Route 157.

Edwardsville police say swasitkas were painted on ten homes and two cars between 1:40 and 2:20 Saturday morning. They've posted surveillance camera video from one of the homes on the department's Facebook page.

Cemetery officials say more than 150 headstones were damaged. They're hoping to have them cleaned-up by Memorial Day. A patriotic remembrance is scheduled there at noon on Monday.

Edwardsville police say if you know anything about the property damage, call 618-656-2131.
