WAYNESVILLE, Mo. (KMOX) — Pulaski County, Missouri Sheriff Jimmy Bench is mourning the loss of his foster son to drugs.

The central Missouri sheriff wrote a heartfelt letter in response to the death of Ryan Bench, in an attempt to help families who may be struggling with addiction issues of their own.

Sheriff Bench describes the mixed emotions the family is feeling, ranging from anger to sadness. However, he also warned people that addiction "does not discriminate" and that there are only two ways addiction problems end: "death or recovery."

Pulaski County is west of Rolla and includes Fort Leonard Wood.
