ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Now that Chesterfield Mall has a new owner, how long before a redevelopment?

Chesterfield City Administrator Mike Geisel says while Hull Property Group purchased most of the mall itself, the Sears, Macys and Dillards anchor stores all have different owners. They'll all have to work together.

Hull's statement seemed to indicate they'll need public assistance. Is Chesterfield open to that?

“We have shared with them that discussing public financing in the city is a difficult topic to start with. We have never believed in public financing for developer related costs,” he says.

Geisel notes that Chesterfield's comprehensive plan has the mall site depicted as "urban core" -- in other words, they expect it to become their "downtown Chesterfield." He says the longer they wait to get the ball rolling, greater the burden is going to be.

In a written statement on their purchase, John Mulherin, Vice President of Government Relations for Hull Property Group, says "Our company is prepared to invest the necessary resources here in Chesterfield to reinvent this failed property, but we can’t do it alone."
