Chesterfield Mall Under Contract, No Concrete Plans Yet

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Chesterfield Mall is now under contract.

Hull Property Group of Georgia has bought up other distressed malls, including one in Alton.  But Chesterfield City Administrator Mike Geisel makes it clear the city doesn't just want a patch job.

“The folks out here in Chesterfield believe this is a transformational property. It needs to be a bold, very comprehensive, visionary plan,” he says.

He says the mall property should integrate into Chesterfield's vision for a downtown.  Another bidder, The Staenberg Group, proposed something like that with supermarkets, health clubs, stores, offices, and residences in multi-story buildings that would replace the 1970s shopping mall.

“They’ve indicated that this is not going to be a patch it up, rebrand it and fix it up a little bit, they’re looking for a major project and they’re expecting it to be a multi-use development consistent with the city’s expectations,” Geisel says.
