July 20, 2018 - 8:36 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The city of Ballwin wants to bring attention to the suicide rate among military veterans.

The VA reports that an average of 20 veterans a day take their own lives.  Tomorrow the city of Ballwin wants to honor those vets and raise awareness.   A presentation called the Flags for Forgotten Soldiers will 660 American flags near the intersection of Park Drive and Andrews Parkway to represent the number of veterans who commit suicide each and every month.

City of Ballwin Mechanic Tony Ewing, his wife, and members of the Ballwin Public Works Department are behind the effort.  Ewing is an Army veteran and two of his sons are currently serving in the military.   The flags will remain in place for about two weeks before they are taken to the State of Maine for another presentation.
