TRUXTON, Mo. (KMOX) — A 14-year-old cold case murder in Lincoln County might be solved.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday that 36-year-old Joseph Harrell of Warrenton and 57-year-old Daniel Russell of Tipton, Missouri are in custody for the murder of Byron Owens in 2004.

A cold case detective was assigned to the case 18 months ago. Owens was shot five times near the town of Truxton.

First Degree Murder warrants were issued this week. Harrell was arrested at his Warrenton with help from U.S. Marshals.

However, Russell was actually due to be released from the Department of Corrections today, the very day he was arrested at his prison.
