County Council Meets to Override Stenger's Veto

May 29, 2018 - 10:05 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger's veto of proposed campaign contribution limits and other measures could get overridden today during a special, early meeting of the County Council.

They should have the votes; they passed the original measures 6-to-1.  That lone 'no' vote was by Councilman Pat Dolan.

“I agree with campaign finance reform totally, but added in that bill were the department heads, when they transfer any funding or spent budget issues, they have to come before a council for just about everything they do, and it’s more burdensome,” he says.

The council also wants to ask voters for permission to hire its own lawyer when there's a conflict with the county attorney appointed by Stenger.

Today's council meeting is at 10 a.m., eight hours earlier than usual because they need to get these passed before an election board deadline.
