Coach Todd Shelton was shot as he and his fiance drove past the intersection of Airport Road and Evergreen Boulevard around 10:36 Sunday night.

The 31-year old remains hospitalized. His fiance suffered minor injuries in the crash.

A GoFundMe campaign describes Shelton as a generous and caring gentle giant.

Organizers of the donation drive say he will need "extensive physical rehabilitation and help with adapting to his new situation." Donations will be put toward medical funds and living expenses while he is recuperating.

The goal is set at $100,000.

St. Louis County police say they don't know why anyone would have targeted Shelton.

Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS.
