Deerfield Judge Issues Restraining Order on Assault Weapons Ban

June 13, 2018 - 9:36 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Deerfield, Illinois hoped to enact its assault weapons ban today,  but a judge last night issued a temporary restraining order preventing that from happening.

Nearby Highland Park already did it, banning the weapons and large capacity magazines. Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering tells KMOX in the five years since their ordinance went into effect; eight weapons have been seized there.

"There have not been a lot of situations where we have to remove people’s guns, those have mainly come in the form of traffic stops or in situations where there is a risk or self-harm, a call in from a family member," she says.

Deerfield, in a statement, says it will abide by the court ruling but they're "certainly going to review all of the options available to the Village, including the right to appeal the decision."
