ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis County NAACP President John Gaskin is being called on to resign, after announcing the organization's support for the Better Together merger plan, and admitting he is working for the group pushing the plan.

In a statement, Dellwood Mayor Reggie Jones accuses Gaskin of selling out the very people he is supposed to be representing, and selling the civil rights organization to the Bettter Together movement. Gaskin announced his support for the Better Together City/County merger plan and revealed that he is being paid by Unite STL, which is promoting the proposal.

The statement from Jones and company reads, in part:

"Mr. Gaskin's statements today; claiming the St. Louis County Chapter of the NAACP supports the forced merger of the city and county, as well as dissolving municipalities and stealing their revenues to fund the consolidation, clearly indicates that he has sold out the very people he is supposed to be representing and the very people who have supported him with his rise in the NAACP organization."
