Engineers, Metro Discuss North-South Expansion

February 09, 2018 - 9:38 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - How would more Metrolink truly make life better for those who'd become its neighbors, if a northside-southside line gets built?  That was a topic of a meeting last night involving engineers currently studying it. Bethany Johnson-Javois, CEO of St. Louis Integrated Health Network, wants them to think about transit in a holistic-style.

"In addition to walking, food access, economic stability, it's so important being able to get to jobs and communities around us, making sure that we're inclusive in our thinking about communities," she says.

And this line could be more successful at that than the first two. Those mostly followed railroad right-of-way which tends to be, well, out-of-the-way.  The proposed northside-southside line would mostly run in the street, in a dedicated lane away from the traffic, which would better integrate them into the communities around.
