GRAFTON, Ill. (KMOX) - A small boat exploded Saturday evening in the river near the Grafton harbor, injuring both persons on board.

Grafton QEM Fire Chief Gerry New says the victims were airlifted to a St. Louis area hospital, "They were burned, mostly second-degree burns. They're going to be sore, but they're going to be okay." He described them as local residents.

New says the blast happened about 6pm within clear view of the river town's busy restaurants, "Right at the entrance to the harbor by where the boat slips are, away from the dock by about fifty feet. It was not by any gas pumps."

He says the cause of the explosion is under investigation, "I've got a rough idea already, by talking to the boat's owner. I don't want to say anything definite until I know for sure."
