ROXANA, Ill. (KMOX) — A large fireball shot up from the Phillips 66 Wood River Refinery and the explosion rattled the surrounding community.

It happened at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday. A Phillips 66 spokeswoman tells KMOX News the fire was quickly extinguished by the plant's own emergency response team.

"All employees and contract employees have been accounted for," Melissa Erker said. "We did have someone walk to a waiting ambulance and was transported to a local hospital."

Erker says an event at the refinery caused a fire in one of the process units.

The exact cause will be investigated.

She says off-site monitoring shows no problems with air quality.
