ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -- St. Louis has a diverse workforce but not all of those people are ready for the jobs of the future.

Express Scripts is teaming up with Venture Café this Thursday to put on an event about increasing the diversity pipeline in both technology and healthcare.

"When we look at diversity and inclusion here at Express Scripts, we think.. we're responsible for the pharmacy benefits for 83 million people and if you add in the medical management business that we do that's almost 100 million Americans that we work with each year to make sure they're getting access to affordable medication and healthcare.

"We need to be as diverse interally as our audience is externally," Express Scripts executive Brian Henry says.

Also, because it's in the tech district, the company will be demonstrating its use of artificial intelligence to make filling prescriptions easier as well as start-ups they're investing in.

"We just recently announced an investment in a company that makes pharmacy kiosks," Henry says. "We believe there's an opportunity to bring basic maintenance medications to people in a way that they've come to get used to using an ATM to get money."

"We know everybody can't get out to Express Scripts, so we see opportunities like this as a chance to bring Express Scripts to people."

Venture Café starts at 3 p.m. Thursday at 4240 Duncan Ave. in the city's Cortex Innovation District.
