ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The father of a black teenager who was shot to death by St. Louis police officers three years ago Sunday has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in federal court.

Dennis Ball-Bey is suing the officers involved, then-Police Chief Sam Dotson, and the city of St. Louis. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, he is seeking unspecified damages.

18-year-old Mansur Ball-Bey was shot as he ran from a house on Walton Avenue, after more than a dozen police officers entered it to search for guns and drugs. The officers and an ATF agent told investigators that Ball-Bey had pointed a gun with an extended clip at them. Dennis Ball-Bey contends his son was unarmed and was shot in the back as he ran away.

Then-Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce did not file charges against the officers, citing evidence backing their claim of self-defense.
