Father's Support Center Says Child Support and Visitation Impacts Children's Development

August 20, 2018 - 10:23 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - August is Child Support Awareness month and Halbert Sullivan of the Fathers Support Center has a message.

“Child support enforcement is not the enemy. We just need to ensure that all dads who have children are financially supportive of their children,” he says.

Sullivan says many of the dads they help have fallen behind in payments and are unable to see their children. They work with them to put together payment plans.

“While I press the financial support and as we tell the men, it doesn’t matter if you’ve got to pick grapes or apples, you’re going to have to pay that child support or be financially supportive, there’s a another benefit of fathers being involved in their child’s life. The father impacts the emotional and psychological development of that child,” he says.

And so FSC also works with the mothers to increase co-parenting agreements and get them to understand the importance of children having a father in their lives.
