Then he jumped in the car to drive to another mandated COVID-19 test.

On the way, he called into his weekly radio show on KMOX to discuss the last week, one that saw the organization's number of positive coronavirus cases grow to 16 and postponed games to 10.

Some of those positives, he said, while not specifying player or staff member, have experienced symptoms that have led to trips to the emergency room for intravenous therapy (IV) and further examination.

"Nobody is in close to any critical shape," Shildt said. "But people are having to deal with some things that aren't comfortable at all. And hopefully we can get that behind them. They're getting great care."

There have been no overnight stays, but the variety of symptoms have been mutlple and seem to rotate with the individuals.

"This is real," Shildt said.

John Mozeliak, the team's president of baseball operations, also made his regular weekly appearance on KMOX, saying the team is waiting for test results to determine to determine when the Cardinals can play baseball again.

"We should get those later (Sunday)," Mozeliak said. "That will be factored into really what we decide is our next best step."

Mozeliak said has communicated with a number of players and has shared as much information as he can. He has a meeting this afternoon, he said, that could provide more.

"There's a lot of anxiety on what's going to happen next, what to expect," Mozeliak said. "Candidly, everything I've just shared with you, that's all I've been able to share with players at this point. There's nothing we're hiding from, it's just a matter of trying to understand when we have confidence to regather as a group, will we feel safe?"
