ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The feds are taking over prosecution of the man accused of robbing several women in the Central West End.

The U.S. Attorney charged 33-year-old Brandon Mardell Woods with felony counts relating to robbery, violence and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Police say the man is a suspect in five robberies of women in the CWE and DeBaliviere Place neighborhoods since June 12. In two of the crimes, the victims were kidnapped and taken to withdraw cash from ATMs.

Though Woods is a suspect in other offenses, federal prosecutors say the charges relate to an incident June 17, when Woods allegedly held a gun to the stomach of a woman in the 4400 block of Maryland Avenue and demanded money.

When the woman said she didn't have any money, Woods allegedly made her drive him to an ATM, where he took out $500.

A stun gun had to be used when Woods was arrested Wednesday in the 5100 block of Natural Bridge. At the time of his arrest, he was in possession of over 30 rounds of ammunition, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's office. Officers also recovered a firearm from his backpack.

The FBI is assisting city police in their investigation.
