Financial Planning Remains a Male-Dominated Field

St. Louis, MO (KMOX) - Less than quarter of certified financial planners in the United States are women.

Laura Mattia, founder of Women's Money Empowerment Network and author of the book "Gender on Wall Street", tells KMOX women who enter the field, often become frustrated with a male-dominated culture.

Mattia says part of the issue is that women often don't support each other.  "It's so frustrating because the truth is we are supposed to be great at relationship building and for whatever reason women just are not building those relationships in the workplace and especially the financial workplace."

Mattia has three decades in the industry.  She says "unconscious bias" often means women are challenged more than men to prove they're competent -- even by other women.
