22 Days to Go: Blues Home Will Look Unrecognizable After Renovations

August 22, 2018 - 6:11 pm

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - There are just 22 days remaining until the 1,500 gallons of paint must be dry, the beer taps installed and merchandise shop registers opens after Phase 2 of the Enterprise Center renovations. Media was allowed in for a tour of the construction zones around the home of the St. Louis Blues and one of the area's busiest concert spaces, Wednesday.

Alex Rodrigo, VP of sports and entertainment operations at Enterprise Center led media into some of the spaces undergoing major changes that will make the concourse nearly unrecognizable to fans. Included in the changes are new 140,000 sq. feet of drywall, 26,000 sq. feet of tile, 19,000 sq. feet of carpet that is replacing a lot of less blue and yellow floors, walls and pillars.

The first event scheduled at Enterprise Center is the Maroon 5 concert on September 13, followed by Blues preseason hockey on September 21. Before the calendar hits November, there will be nine hockey games and concerts for Elton John, Justin Timberlake, Fleetwood Mac and other shows hosted at Enterprise Center.

If you aren't sitting in one of the 9,000 new seats in the upper bowl of arena, there's plenty of new gathering spaces around for anyone with a ticket to the game or show.

A new Anheuser-Busch Biergarten, located just inside the 14th Street entrance will feature 36 beer taps for AB products and other locally brewed drinks, along with new food options and a stage for live pre and postgame performances. It opens 90 minutes before the puck drops and stays open up to two hours after the final horn.

The District is a sports bar and gathering space created in the area which used to be the open atirum on the top level. A concrete floor was put in and 6,000 sp. feet of floor space was added to fit the bar, tables, a panoramic view of the city and a Blues team store.

With all the new changes there might be some initial struggles to The District or the Biergarten. Rodrigo says there will be digital and static wayfinding signage around the concourse areas. There will also be directions available for anyone with a smartphone that can direct you to your seats and around the concourse.
