ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A riverboat tour on the Mississippi yesterday helped to wrap up the 4-day-long Freight Week event here in St. Louis.

St. Louis Regional Freightway executive director Mary Lamie says the massive convention with 2000 attendees was such a success on its first go-round that it will happen again on an annual basis.

Meanwhile, she noted that national freight volume is expected to grow more than 40-percent in the next 30 years.

“A majority of that is related to a tremendous increase in the world population over the next two to three decades and the topics focused on how the world is going to help feed that population,” she says.

Lamie said St. Louis is poised to contribute to and benefit from that growth by virtue of the region's world-class multimodal freight network, home to 6 Class-1 railroads, 4 interstates, and two airports.
