Forest Park Forever Launch Plan to Upgrade Natural Attractions

July 30, 2018 - 7:04 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The cultural attractions in Forest Park have been upgraded in recent years. Now an effort is getting underway to make sure the natural attractions are around for generations to come. It begins with a meeting on Thursday night.

That’s when Forest Park Forever and the City will launch a Natural Resources Management plan, to make sure the park's trees, prairies and waterways are sustainable.

Forest Park Forever Spokesman Stephen Schenkenberg says among the priorities will be fending off invasive species and connecting more of the park's waterways.

"A lot of that from the west, the center has been connected, and that’s increased the health and the vitality for the species and the overall use, and we need to continue that for the east side so it’s making sure that once those connections happen and we’ve put the best possible plan in place," he says.

Forest Park Forever is funding the plan. The first step in the plan is a public meeting which will be held Thursday evening, at the Dennis and Judith Jones Visitor and Education Center on Grand Drive.
