Gary Sinese Foundation Holds Walls of Honor Event for Veteran

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The Gary Sinise Foundation has not finished the smart home in Wildwood for an injured veteran yet, but today there is a special event.

Chris Kuban with the Gary Sinise Foundation says today's Walls of Honor allows family, friends and even subcontractors to write words of encouragement on the walls of the home for retired Sgt. Legrand Strickland.

“Legrand, for example, is a double amputee veteran which means that he lost both of his legs above the knee. He also has a TBI, a traumatic brain injury, and this house is designed to give him the independence, the dignity that he deserves. After all, he fought for our country, this is the least we can do to give back,” he says.

Kuban says on average they try to include 10 to 12 new recipients each year and try to build about 66 new smart homes for injured first responders and veterans annually.
