ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The home of the "Hot Salami Sandwich" is coming to Busch Stadium in 2018. Gioia's Deli sent a Tweet, announcing that it was honored by the St. Louis Cardinals as "the official food of Busch Stadium" for a national food competition.

In April, MLB will host it's first ever Food Fest in New York City, featuring a special dish from all 30 MLB stadiums. The Cardinals selected Gioia's Hot Salami Sandwich to represent St. Louis.

The dishes have to be something that is served at the ballpak, meaning, Busch Stadium will be selling the locally famous sandwiches this season. And it's perfect timing because Gioia's is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. In 1918, Challie Gioia built the first Gioia's Deli, which still stands today, at Macklind and Daggett

The deli has a second location in downtown St. Louis as well as a food truck. They've been featured on national food shows and last year it was one of five restaurants in the country to receive the James Beard Foundation’s America’s Classics Award.
