Great Rivers Greenway Opens Two Mile Expansion on Friday

May 03, 2018 - 10:27 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Opportunities to commune with nature and to watch the sun rise over the Mississippi River are about to increase.

On Friday Great Rivers Greenway will cut the ribbon on a 2-mile extension in Cliff Cave Park in St. Louis County.

Great Rivers Greenway CEO Susan Trautman says they've spent nearly two years and more than $4 million to extend the paved greenway in the park by an additional two miles.

“People will actually be able to walk from the neighborhoods around Telegraph into the park, but even if you drive it’s really an extraordinarily beautiful trail,” she says.

New additions include a long pedestrian bridge over Cliff Cave Road and a separate 70-foot long bridge that will allow visitors to cross over the creek at the mouth of Cliff Cave.

In addition to Friday's ribbon-cutting, a public ceremony will be held from 2 until 4 pm on Sunday.

“If you really want a great view of the sunrise over the Mississippi river, this is going to the spot for it,” Trautman says.
