Greitens' Lawyer Faces Contempt of Court Hearing

July 12, 2018 - 9:43 am

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The attorney for the ex-husband in the Greitens affair faces a contempt of court hearing later this week.

On the same day back in April that the judge had just issued a gag order on the Greitens case, Attorney Albert Watkins walked out on the courthouse steps and was swarmed by reporters.

But Watkins ending up talking on the record for about 15 minutes, touching on topics the included the $100k cash payment he received from a mystery donor.

“I will tell you that extraordinary caution was employed, that we made sure to notify the FBI immediately, we made sure to provide them with confirmation of where the money was going,” he says.

At the time, Watkins said he didn't think the gag order applied to him, because he was something of a peripheral player in the case, and the judge hadn't worded in the gag order in a way that Watkins thought applied to him.

That hearing is scheduled for Friday. Watkins faces possible sanctions or fines.
