ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - With his criminal trial drawing near, Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens' lawyers are asking, once again, for a trial by judge rather than by jury.

The motion argues that extensive pre-trial publicity and the release of the Missouri House reports on the governor have "destroyed any chance of obtaining a fair trial."

Earlier, the judge said no to the same request, saying the governor shoud be judged a jury of ordinary citizens so the public has confidence in the outcome.

The motion to make it a bench trial could be argued Monday morning, along with a separate motion to disqualify Greitens' former lover from testifying.
