Hawley Can Only File Civil Suit Against McKee

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley says he doesn't have the jurisdiction to file a criminal case against mega developer Paul McKee, only a civil lawsuit.  Hawley sued McKee this week, accusing him of tax credit fraud, seeking the return of $4.5 million to the state.  Asked if the feds are looking into the matter, Hawley said he can’t comment on individual cases.

“I’ll say this, we work with a number of other law enforcement agencies at the local, state, and federal level on a daily basis in a variety of cases, and that cooperation is very routine,” he says.

McKee issued a statement this week saying "any notion that tax credits were misused or did not benefit north St. Louis is false. Northside Regeneration is confident the claims are without merit and will vigorously defend itself."
