Hazardous Substance Sickens 6 at Metro-East Club

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - UPDATE: The owners of Roxy's - International Entertainment Consultants - sent KMOX a statement saying two guests and one employee overdosed on an unknown substance.

They say police found no residue inside the club. But, they have agreed to have a professional cleaning of the building, and will re-open once that is completed.

Previous reporting:

Six people were sickened overnight by something in the air at a Metro-East club.

Brooklyn, Ill., police say they got a call between 2:30 and 3 Friday morning regarding several people falling ill at Roxy's.

Lt. Antonio White says two Brooklyn officers and a Med-Star medic also became sickened while attending to them.

“It is very scary, because I don’t want to go to any of my officer’s family’s doors saying their father or mother’s not returning home. I take this very seriously, and I just pray that everyone who went to the hospital will be OK to go back home to their family,” he says.

White says one of the officers is already speaking with investigators.

Illinois State Police are helping the Brooklyn police determine what the hazardous substance is and how it got there.

Roxy's will remain closed until investigators determine it is safe to re-open.
