ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A St. Louis-area teacher is accused of trying to hire a hitman to kill a 10-year-old boy he allegedly molested and the boy's mother.

Deonte Taylor (photo above) pleaded not guilty to the charges last week in St. Louis. Prosecutors say Taylor molested the boy in 2015 at Lusher Elementary School in the Hazelwood School District, where he worked as a teaching assistant.

Taylor went on to earn his teaching certificate while the investigation continued and passed background checks despite the open case. He was hired as a teacher at Walnut Grove Elementary School in the Ferguson-Florissant School District.

He was arrested for the molestation in November 2018.

The Ferguson-Florissant School District provided a statement to KSDK-TV, last week:

"Taylor never returned to the school after the allegations. Although the District reported the allegations to DFS as required, the District received a notification from social services that the report was unsubstantiated. No further information was provided by the police."

While in jail, police say Taylor gave money to another inmate to kill the boy and his mother to keep them from testifying, but the inmate Taylor paid became a confidential informant to the police.
